Spooky Illustrations, Intense & Detailed
I have the Spanish version of this book. I bought it before my child was born since i loved the pictures. Thought if I ever have a child this would be a really wild book to share. I just loved the illustrations. The pictures are scarry, but beautifully drawn. Now my child is 4, I showed it to him & he was fascinated...can't wait till my other friends kids are old enough to send a copy. If your child likes scary things, or if you are looking for a book to read on Halloween, this book is excellent. Hand drawn color illustrations, with a repetitive rhyme...

An extremely attractive story book
My daughter 4-year old with English as second language, firstly being attracted by the mysterious but beautiful illustration of this book.Once we started the reading we found the story very attractive and non-stopable(fortunately only 30+ pages). After read together with her for triple, she is able to read aloud by herself. She enjoyed this book very much and likes to share with her friends to scare them.

great book for children who are fascinated by monsters
Don't be scared off by the "Horn" review. This is a great Halloween book for children 4+ unless they are extremely sensitive. Most kids I know are fascinated by monsters and creepy things, and the illustrations in this book, while scary, are rich and beautiful. Any kid who can handle Roald Dahl will like this book.

The Presents of Angels
Published in Paperback by American Book Publishing (01 September, 2002)
Author: Warren J. Ludlow

Presents of Angels
If you want to feel something good that happens to people when they have their hearts in the "right" place, this story about modern day angels is the ticket. It is a story that really gives a focus to the things that get pushed outta sight and yet they are the things that matter most. Love and attention to relationships. For a first time try at getting out the good word Warren Ludlow really hit a homerun. I'm going to be sure all my friends and family get in on such a good thing. The time reading the book was like putting good will into my personal bank of being a better person. This is a can't miss holiday gift I'll be using!

A Great Christmas Story
I'm no literary critic, just a regular person, and I loved this story. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get into the Christmas spirit.

A Gifted Reminder of What's Really Important in Life
"The Presents of Angels" is an entertainly quick read that elicits chuckles, evokes warm memories of family Christmases, and reminds us of the importance of family when faced with the tyranny of the urgent moment.

This story about the redemption of a wealthy businessman who has achieved success at his family's expense - an all too familiar story in these modern times - gives those of us who might have fallen victim to that same trap, hope for a better, happier and much wiser tomorrow. This little book has all the warmth and magic of "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street" combined.

I bought one for each of my children's stockings and am giving it this year as a gift to each of my friends, too. It's entertaining, inexpensive and conveys an important message. PLUS, it's cute and will look great on the coffee table! What more could you want for Christmas?

The Dying Trade (Privateersman Mysteries No. 2)
Published in Paperback by McBooks Press (01 October, 2001)
Author: David Donachie
Average review score:

you cannot put it down!
All of Donachie's books are great! They are totally exiting and the main characters are rounded and charming. I always keep up all night to finish them. I have one criticism, however:What s really lacking is a map of a ship or a naval glossary because it is frustrating to have to skip over all the naval descriptions because you cannot understand them without background knowledge.

An excellent book, especially if ex naval person
An excellent story , carrying on with the two main characters written in David's earlier books. I don't understand why this author is not so widely read or freely avaiable from WH Smith etc. David, hopefully writes one book per year, I am eagerly awaiting his next puiblication

I would recommend any of his books, The Devils Own Luck, The Drying Trade, both these books I picked up as a twin set for the ridiculous price of £2.99, that started the journey off, followed by A Hanging Matter, a Scent of Betrayal and his last book, A Bag Of Bones. As an ex sailor, it brought back a lot of memories about where our great naval traditions sprung from and how everyday usage of words came into the English language from sailors.

It is also a good " detective " story leaving you guessing right up to the conclusion. Well done David, BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU ARE WRITING AGAIN

To The Shore Once More: A Portrait Of The Jersey Shore; Prose, Poetry, and Works Of Art
Published in Hardcover by Jersey Shore Publications (21 July, 1999)

Captures the essence of The Jersey Shore
Our family has the fortune of having Frank Finale as a teacher to both our children.

He has done a wonderful job capturing the Jersey Shore for all of its charms and the many artists who live here.

Everyone who visits the Jersey Shore will want this book
First, the editors of To the Shore Once should be congratulated. They chose 101 drawings, etchings, and paintings from local New Jersey and some national artists. These works of Art complement Mr. Frank Finale's writing in essays, prose and poetry. You, turn the page and you feel like you are at the beach in Spring Lake, Belmar or Manasquan. Even the carrousel of 1950s Asbury Park is represented. As I think of Frank O'Hara's book on Jackson Pollock, To The Shore Once More will become a classic coffee table book for years to come. Art and prose and poetry, what a nice mix. We have Mr. Frank Finale to thank for such a beautiful book this Summer

You're Sittin' on Boomey!: The Best of Ludlow Porch
Published in Hardcover by Longstreet Press (October, 1997)
Author: Ludlow Porch

Fall on the floor humor!!!!
Ludlow in all his books has a unique version of the south through a legend's eyes.

A collection of Ludlow Porch's best southern humor.
If you love to grin, you will love this book. It is a collection of Ludlow Porch's best short stories from his previous books. Consider it concentrated humor. Ludlow is a southern gentleman with a love for humor and in his books they come together - respecful southern humor that everyone can enjoy. The best part is that his stories are about real life observations in the South. There is really nothing more humorous or funny than real life and in Ludlow's books he certainly proves this. This book is a great investment, it gives more back in enjoyment than one pays for it.

Big Pig's Hat
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (May, 1993)
Authors: Willy Smax and Keren Ludlow
Average review score:

teaches a lesson about bullies
In BIG PIG'S HAT, a gust of wind blows Big Pigs hat away. When he discovers that his hat is missing he assumes that someone has stolen it. All the citizens of Beansville USA are scared of Big Pig. When he comes into town everyone hides, except for Dirty Donkey. Big Pig accuses him of stealing his hat and tries to push Dirty Donkey around. Dirty Donkey takes a stand! He won't let Big Pig push him around! This book showed a positive example of someone standing up to a bully. My children also noticed that Big Pig shouldn't have jumped to conclusions when his hat was missing. I think this book teaches some valuable lessons. My children turn each page with excitement every time I read it.

In Search of Unicorns
Published in Hardcover by Hodder & Stoughton (March, 1986)
Authors: Susannah York and Patricia Ludlow
Average review score:

Absolutely beautiful book
Any lover of Unicorns should try their hardest to get a copy of this book! The story is heart touching and the pictures are absolutely beautiful (the copy I have was illustrated by Wendy Hall). It's a shame this book is out of print! This is the first time that I've ever seen the book anywhere but in my house; perhaps it wasn't pushed in the States that much? Mine was printed in London.

Jack Tractor
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (June, 1998)
Authors: Keren Ludlow and Willy Smax
Average review score:

teriffic book for kids who love vehicles
Both my kids love this book--a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. The personalities of the vehicles are nicely done, and the tone isn't typical American pap. The only drawback is that all the main characters are male...The illustrations are modern and really well done without being too abstract.

Fun Family Reading
My family checks this book out from the library regularly. My children are 5 and 3 and they can't get enough of Jack Tractor, Benny the Breakdown truck and all the other wonderful characters. My husband and I enjoy the book as much as the children do. We all have our favorite story but we read them all several times a day. I would recommend this book to any parent with children who love cars and trucks or who just love a great story.

A great favorite
We have taken this book out from the library 17 times for our 4 year old he loves it. I am sadly disapointed to see it is no longer in print. A great book that can be read and reread by children and adults alike.
